Welcome to Awatere cottage. Awatere is a Maori word for flowing water, but it also favours creative expression. One of the many wonders of cottage life is that you can be entirely yourself, re-acquaint with that inner fun-loving, adventurous you, go with the flow and reconnect with nature at its best. Designed and built by the owner, this wonderfully unique cottage with guest cabin lives up its name, offering all the ingredients that make for a great vacation – and don’t forget the famous 3 Rs – rest, relax and rejuvenate. Here you can re-create your finest self in a comfortable environment on a private half acre lot with a fabulous sand beach, a pair of 12 foot kayaks, a large flotation mat and kiddie toys, with a view to die for– all on expansive crystal clear Kennisis Lake, renowned for its beauty and its excellent swimming and boating.

Awatere provides the conveniences of home without losing a bit of its cottage character and rustic charm. 18 foot vaulted ceilings in the dining area, and stunning post and beam ceilings in the cabin, gives the spaces an open, airy quality. And the guest cabin has its own BBQ, wood stove and bathroom, even an outdoor shower. Both the main building and cabin have three piece bathrooms, balconies off the bedrooms, lots of outdoor lounge furniture, and there is an outdoor shower on the wrap around deck. The main building has a paved social area with a firepit to enjoy the great outdoors, both day and night. Just a great family cottage!

Welcome to your home away from home, at the heart of Ontario’s premier holiday destination. Kennisis Lake boasts miles of boating pleasure, uninhabited islands to explore, stunning vistas and crystal clear water for swimming. There’s a marina on the lake for those last minute supplies and all your watercraft needs and we’re just minutes from the 100,000 acre Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve with its groomed hiking and biking trails and world-famous Wolf Observatory.

We appreciated the comfortable settings in each room. Lots of space to read, play games, or simply enjoy the views. The sunrises at the beach were spectacular. We loved the convenience of the firepit and waking up to the beautiful view of lake from the deck. The kids loved the beach and the kayaks. The beds were very comfortable and the spaces in the cottage and cabin were generous.

THE WATERFRONT

Terrific sand beach mid-summer. Shallow entry all summer long. Extensive docking. 2 kayaks and lilypad (floating mat). SE exposure. Sun on dock until 4pm. Over 50 steps to the water (safe w/railings). 2 12 ft. kayaks, lilly pad. There are 3 readily accessible boat launches nearby.

Satellite TV (2 TVs) VCR/Xbox (kids’ DVD library and board games), pod and filter coffee maker, water cooler, Wifi (fibe), 2 woodstoves (1 in cabin), dishwasher, washing machine. (No dryer) Clothesline, ceiling and standing fan, outdoor shower on cabin deck, enclosed fire pit, 2 BBQs (1 charcoal BBQ at Cabin), deck furniture with umbrella, porch swing, fans throughout.

Absolutely wonderful! We had a great time and enjoyed the cottage with all it’s large rooms. It was perfect for the grandkids having a separate cabin to sleep in. It worked out well. Will think about renting it again sometime.
